JAKARTA – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR), a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), has once again achieved a Gold Rank in the Asia Sustainability Reporting Rating (ASRRAT) 2025 event organized by the National Center for Corporate Reporting (NCCR) in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners (ICSP).

This achievement marks the fourth consecutive year that SMBR has received this award and demonstrates the company’s consistency in presenting credible, measurable sustainability reports that align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

The award was accepted by SMBR’s Director of Finance & Human Resources, Rahmat Hidayat, at the ASRRAT 2025 awards ceremony held on Friday (November 28) at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali. In 2025, the event attracted 82 participants from within and outside the country.

Rahmat expressed his appreciation for the recognition given to SMBR. “This award demonstrates SMBR’s continued commitment to maintaining the quality of its sustainability reports through credible data and programs that are truly implemented in the field. This consistency is not just about reporting, but about our concrete efforts to create a positive impact on the environment and society,” he said.

This assessment is based on the 2021 Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, an international organization that provides sustainability reporting standards, and relevant regulations from the Financial Services Authority (OJK). It focuses on the completeness, balance, and accuracy of information. SMBR’s 2024 Sustainability Report is considered to have demonstrated consistent improvement in ESG performance.

Regarding the environmental aspect, SMBR has reclaimed 46.88 hectares of post-mining land and developed Trigona honey cultivation, with production reaching 81,840 ml, which began in 2021. Strengthened environmental performance is also evident in the increased use of alternative energy, with the Thermal Substitution Rate (TSR) realization increasing to 3.18% in 2024 through the use of alternative fuels.

Carbon emission reduction performance has also strengthened. Carbon intensity was successfully reduced from 577 kg CO₂/ton of cement to 562 kg CO₂/ton of cement, in line with a reduction in the clinker factor to 67.17%.

Regarding governance, SMBR’s ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) score significantly increased to 92.84 points, ranking it Very Good (Level 4), up from 88.51 points the previous year.

He emphasized that sustainability principles will continue to be SMBR’s strategic foundation. “Achieving the Gold Rank for the fourth year running spurs us to continue innovating, strengthening governance, and ensuring that every sustainability initiative has a broader positive impact on all stakeholders,” he said.

With this achievement, SMBR further solidifies its position as a company that consistently applies Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles throughout its business processes. (*)

JAKARTA – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR), a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), once again achieved outstanding success at the Social Business Innovation and Green (SIGREEN) 2025 event organized by Warta Ekonomi. This year, Semen Baturaja was named Best Corporate in Responsible Business Practices for Strengthening Environmental Performance through Alternative Fuel Adoption and Local Empowerment in the Basic Industry and Chemicals category.

SIGREEN 2025 is a prestigious event that emphasizes the importance of social innovation and green commitments in the business world. More than just an award, SIGREEN 2025 is a momentum for cross-sector collaboration to strengthen competitiveness while ensuring the sustainability of the green economy in Indonesia.

The award was presented directly by Warta Ekonomi CEO Muhammad Ihsan to SMBR Operations Director Taufik at the awards ceremony held at the Batavia Tower, Jakarta, on Thursday (November 27th).

Taufik stated that this award further strengthens SMBR’s commitment to expanding the implementation of sustainability programs. “This award motivates us to continue to improve innovation, expand the use of alternative energy, and maintain a balance between industrial operations and environmental sustainability. Going forward, SMBR will continue to strengthen collaboration with various parties to ensure that all business processes are increasingly oriented towards sustainability,” he said.

This sustainability commitment is reflected in the increased use of Alternative Fuel & Raw Materials (AFR) in the production process. By the third quarter of 2025, SMBR had utilized 120,989 tons of AFR, an increase of approximately 22% compared to the same period the previous year, which reached 99,219 tons. This increase was driven by the optimization of biomass as a more environmentally friendly alternative energy source.

According to Taufik, the increased use of AFR is part of the company’s strategy to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. “We continue to increase the use of AFR as part of our commitment to delivering a cleaner production process.” “This effort will not only reduce emissions but also help the company achieve its sustainability targets in a more measurable manner,” he said.

As a follow-up, SMBR, along with the Ministry of Environment, is also discussing plans to utilize Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency. This initiative is still in the exploratory stage and is preparing a technical study with relevant stakeholders.

Taufik emphasized that SMBR sees significant potential in this plan. “RDF in OKU is still in the early stages of discussion. However, we view this as having strong potential to support the clean energy transition. If realized, RDF will be a crucial part of strengthening SMBR’s path towards more sustainable energy use,” he explained.

With this achievement, Semen Baturaja reaffirms its position as a company that consistently adheres to ESG principles and supports the SIG Group’s sustainability targets. (*)
