PALEMBANG – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) succeeded in receiving prestigious national awards at the 2023 Indonesia SDGs Award (ISDA) and 2023 Indonesia CSR Award (ICA) held by the Corporate Forum for CSR Development (CFCD). The award was received directly on Monday (4/12) at the Westin Hotel, Rasuna Said, Jakarta.
This event is an awards event given to companies that save energy, carry out environmental conservation, carry out social activities in the community and various positive things as a contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the ISDA event, SMBR received 2 Gold category awards through two programs, namely the Land Conservation Program on Critical Post-Mining Quarry Land Using Silvicultural Methods to Create Green Habitat for Trigona Bee Colonies and Optimizing White Clay Products, Which Are One of the Downstreams of the Cement Industry and Supporting Food Security National.

SMBR Vice President of Corporate Secretary, Basthony Santri said that this award is concrete evidence of the company carrying out sustainable operations and business practices to support the realization of sustainable development (SDGs).
“SMBR’s commitment to sustainability is reflected through the implementation of company programs and initiatives that apply ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. “The main goal is to increase the company’s business resilience in the future,” said Basthony.

One of them is by providing assistance to the fish farming community in Marta Jaya Village, Lubuk Raja District, Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency with total assistance of IDR 150 million.
The delivery of aid was handed over directly by the Senior Manager of CSR SMBR Gili Aprial Braja together with the Acting Regent of OKU H. Teddy Meilwansyah and accompanied by the OKU Forkopimda and related parties on Tuesday (28/11) at Pokdakan Karya Mandiri Jaya, Marta Jaya Village.
The assistance distributed by SMBR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) includes assistance to magot cultivation groups amounting to Rp. 52,500,000.- for the construction of maggot cultivation houses and supporting facilities, the silk worm cultivation group amounting to 52,500,000.- for the construction of silk worm houses and supporting facilities and the snakehead fish cultivation group Rp. 45,000,000.- for the construction of drilled wells and swimming pool facilities.

PALEMBANG – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) succeeded in obtaining a patent from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (KemenkumHAM) of the Republic of Indonesia.
SMBR received a patent through an invention or discovery regarding the “White Clay Production Process as Raw Material for NPK Fertilizer” with Patent Number IDP000090055. White Clay is one of the important raw materials in making NPK fertilizer. This material functions as an adhesive between the elements nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which make up NPK fertilizer.
SMBR itself has been exploring the business potential of White Clay since 2019. This is one of the company’s strategies in dealing with cement oversupply. SMBR has been conducting research and development of the white clay production process for several years. This production process is considered more efficient and produces white clay of better quality.
SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya said that this patent was an important achievement for the company. “This patent is proof of SMBR’s commitment to continue to innovate and produce products using quality raw materials,” he said.
In terms of revenue, sales of White Clay until the third quarter of 2023 experienced growth of 13%, reaching IDR 27.62 billion compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth in White Clay sales also contributed to an increase in company revenue of 10%.

Previously, the handover was carried out symbolically by SMBR Main Director Suherman Yahya to Assistant 1 for Government and People’s Welfare of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (OKU) Indra Susanto to coincide with SMBR’s 49th anniversary which was held on Tuesday (14/11) in Ganesha Wisma Hall, Baturaja.
Furthermore, on Friday (17/11) at the Wisma Ganesha Hall, the assistance was physically handed over by the SMBR Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit Staff to the Head of the OKU Environmental Service, Ahmad Firdaus.

Celebrating 49 years of age, SMBR held a peak anniversary event with the theme “Synergy & Harmony”. The celebration was held at the Wisma Ganesha Factory Hall in Baturaja on Tuesday (14/11). Previously, SMBR had carried out various activities including fashion shows, badminton tournaments, gaple competitions, quizzes, tennis, SMBR Idol, basketball, futsal and E-Sport which were participated by Internal and External.

The event featured speakers who were directly involved in the initial events in the formation of the SMBR journey story, including Iwa Kartiwa as an SMBR employee with NIK (Employee Identity Number) 001 and Iwan Bestari with NIK 002.
Iwa Kartiwa tells the story of the journey when SMBR experienced a difficult phase amidst factory construction conditions. Since it was first established in November 1974, problems have occurred, the bureaucratic process is convoluted and the situation at that time where the rupiah exchange rate was being devalued quite severely due to the KNOP 15 policy implemented by the New Order government.
“The Yendaka phenomenon has resulted in the process of building the Baturaja Semen factory being stalled, because at the construction stage imported raw materials are needed, devaluation makes plans to build the factory more expensive and risk stalling,” he said.
Furthermore, employee with NIK 002, Iwan Bestari, added that since the beginning of the planning, PTSB (which is now called SMBR) was designed to build factories in three areas, namely Baturaja, Palembang and Panjang (Lampung).
“It’s just that building a factory in the Baturaja area requires different attention compared to the other two factories in Palembang and Panjang. “Because in Baturaja the pioneers had to clear the ground, understandably the area was still a thicket forest with various wild animals in it,” said Iwan.
The story of SMBR’s journey is summarized in one book containing 364 pages. The author and the writing team have interviewed more than 30 sources, from across generations of directors, former employees, commissioners, stakeholders and levels of society.
Famous figures interviewed included National Figure Azwar Anas, former Director and founder of SMBR. At a glance at SMBR’s performance, up to the third quarter of 2023, SMBR’s financial performance is very good, where revenue is 10% higher compared to last year and net profit reached IDR 54 billion or an increase of 25% compared to last year. Good financial performance is of course supported by marketing performance, where cement sales volume increased 9% compared to last year, white clay sales were achieved the same as last year’s achievements. With this increase in sales, the Company succeeded in increasing its market share by 1% in the South Sumatra region.(*)
